Renée The French Resistance Fighter

After carefully considering each of the six themes offered, I decided to chose “Resistance”. I immediately thought of the civilian resistance fighters of world war 2 and the possibilities I could explore.  

Whilst watching a world war 2 documentary a few months ago, I learned of the French resistance; a collection of French movements that fought against the Nazi occupation of France during the second world war. Resistance cells were small groups of armed men and woman, referred to as Maquis in rural areas, who, in addition to their guerilla warfare activities, were also publishers of underground newspapers, providers of intelligence information, and maintainers of escape networks that helped allied soldiers and airmen trapped behind enemy lines.

By picking this challenge, I felt I had great opportunity to convey the resilience and determination of the French people to protect their country during this troubling period.
